Are Your Sunglasses Consciously Cool?
Be Consciously Cool with Pala
Confession: I'm officially jealous of Impala Antelopes.
Why? Because they have incredible eyesight. And having spent countless hours every day on my laptop in the past decade, I've lost mine.
Thankfully, though, I have access to prescription contact lenses and eyeglasses easily at my disposal. But this isn't the case for everyone. I can't even begin to imagine what life would be like if I had to live 24-7 without my corrective lenses. I would not only not be able to see our beautiful world in vivid details, but I may even put myself in physical danger.
Ok. This is something that I've definitely taken for granted--until PALA reached out to me.
As you might have guessed, PALA, the brand name, was inspired by the native African Impala Antelopes' superb eyesight. Beyond just taking the antelope's name on as a symbol, though, PALA's Founder, John Pritchard, has a much deeper and grander vision for the brand.
With every pair of sunglasses sold, PALA donates one pair of prescription glasses to an individual in need of them within low-income countries in Africa. In addition, the brand also contributes grants dedicated to creating vision centers, dispensaries, and screening programs throughout the continent. As if these endeavors were not already enough, PALA also supports local rural communities with its glasses cases, which are all hand-weaved by local artisans out of recycled, twisted plastic.
Having discovered PALA on my way to finding more meaning in the mundane, I now wear my PALA Sunglasses not merely as a fashion accessory, but as a purposeful story.
I think of the one individual who shares the burdensome nearsightedness with me in a faraway community, and how he or she has been given prescription glasses to address our common biological vulnerability.
I think of traditional Ghanaian hand-weaving skills being preserved at a time when artisan skills are being undervalued, lost to the incomparable efficiencies that accompany mass production.
And I think of the tons of nonbiodegradable plastic waste that can now be transformed into artisanal goods of value and use.
Are you looking for sunglasses that can help protect more than just your eyes?
If so, let me recommend PALA, which will not only fulfill your fashion needs, but also bring you a sense of purpose with its consciously cool sunglasses that have both looks and substance.
