This Is Why You, Me, And Them Should Get Together

The Coming Together of You, Me, and THem

You, me, and Them.

We may each look different; speak different languages; have different personalities; and have different values and beliefs. But I can almost guarantee that we would both cringe at the sight of intoxicated water; choke in the presence of chemical fumes or smokey air; and become malnourished by eating homogenous types of food grown in nutrient depleted soils and unhealthy environments over time.

You, me, and Them.

We may each have different upbringings; have different life experiences; want different things; and enjoy different hobbies. But I can almost guarantee that we both crave happiness, love, a sense of purpose, social support, and the feeling that we matter as individuals..

You, me, and Them.

Our differences can help us each to grow as individuals and broaden our perspectives on the world. But only if we were able to become more understanding, compassionate, empathetic, and accepting, even to those we found difficult to get along with or to those we deeply disagreed with.

You, me, and Them.

Our commonalities have the power to unite the world at times of disagreement, misunderstanding, and conflict. But only if we collectively recognized that our survival and wellbeing fundamentally depended upon our planet having clean water, clean air, and healthily functioning ecosystems balanced by biodiversity and the inter-dependency of all populations.
